Episode 77: Anime North 2018

Overlapping partly with recording an episode for A Podcast of Ice and Fire, we do a recap of our time at Anime North 2018, held in Toronto, Canada. We cover our experiences at the convention, including taking part as panelists, cosplaying, organizing and running photoshoots, and seeing the exhibitor hall and artist alley. We are not sure if we will be attending next year, so we take the time to evaluate the convention as a whole, both the positives and negatives, based on our last few years of attending the largest Anime convention in Canada.

Notes:  The convention itself marked the sixth year anniversary of the founding of the Bastards of Kingsgrave podcast!

We move from Orange to a discussion about Citrus and other shows we checked out this past season. We also cover the latest manga chapters of One Punch Man manga and Masamune’s Revenge.

Notes: All discussions are spoiler filled, as usual. Sunset is one of (and apparently the main one) of the two reasons why the show got its name.

Episode 71: Nightflyers

After 2 years, Bastards of Kingsgrave resurrects our reviews of George RR Martin’s earlier works. We launch into a lengthy, spoiler filled discussion about Nightflyers, a horror short that was re-released as a novella that won the 1983 Seiun Award (called by some the “Japanese Hugo”). We discuss the questionable movie adaptation and try to find links between Nightflyers and A Song of Ice and Fire, entertaining a couple exotic theories.

Notes: Nightflyers is most readily available in Dreamsongs Volume I. This episode was recorded in February 2017, exactly 2 months ago. The end music themes are from the Nightflyers movie soundtrack.
