Bastards of Kingsgrave continues its 2014 anime reviewing run, as we cover The Devil is a Part-Timer. Recorded back to back with Episode 27, we provide another spoiler filled review of this comedy anime. The aftershow contains the first Snakes and Scorpions game of the new year, as we continue to hash out the proper rules of House Sandwoody’s most deadly game.

Bastards of Kingsgrave returns for the new year to cover Madoka Magica, a true deconstruction of the magical girl anime genre. We briefly discuss two articles related to the anime series (article 1 & 2), as well as the many faces of Kyubey.

The Legend of Korra crew reunites to cover Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search, Part 3 comic. We discuss the final issue of the comic and speculate about future comics. We discuss Ozai’s moonblood charts, why we like Ty Lee, and the awesomeness that is Koh. In the second half of the episode (starting at about 35 minutes in), we discuss our feelings about the season finale (full spoilers) of The Legend of Korra and season 2 in general.

It is a spoiler filled review that was recorded like so many BOK episodes: right after an APOIAF episode recording. We discuss a variety of personal theories and theories from the general fandom, as well as our thoughts on the manga in general. It is an episode filled with Ice and Fire references (perhaps the most ever, the most cringing certainly), creaking doors, and an updated version of our Snakes and Scorpions game for the manga.

Amin is joined by guest hosts Mordion and Vikram to review George RR Martin’s chess short story Unsound Variations. It is a spoiler FULL episode where we dive into every aspect of the story, analyzing it and trying to draw connections to George’s other works and career. This is the first of a series of episodes planned to cover some of George’s short stories and novels that predate A Song of Ice and Fire.
Notes: Unsound Variations is available in Dreamsongs Volume II. It also might be contained as part of this ebook. As noted in the episode, APOIAF is still up for daily voting at the podcast awards (under entertainment), the last day being November 15th.
