Bastards of Kingsgrave records our 12th Anime and Manga Corner. Our usual anime/manga crew is joined once again by returning guest host Zach (Alias) to cover the anime and manga we’ve been watching and reading the past year.

Following up on our first corner episode that covered the manga My Girl, we review some of the other works of the mangaka going by the pen name Sahara Mizu/Sumomo Yumeka. We share our updated thoughts on previous works we have reviewed in past anime/manga corner episodes, including the fall of the Attack on Titan manga. We talk about how to get into reading manga generally and some good series to start with.

Bastards of Kingsgrave talks about Comic Con 2019,  in particular our experiences setting the world record at the Dragonball World Tour and attending the Orville Experience. After the initial convention chat, we proceed with our Anime and Manga corner: talking about Dragonball, One Punch Man Season 2, what we are watching this anime season and what we are reading, and the Kyoto Animation tragedy. In the aftershow, we talk about the latest monumental manga chapters of Attack on Titan and our general thoughts on whether the manga has lost its way the past few years.

Episode 80: Convention Season 2019

Bastards of Kingsgrave starts our coverage of the 2019 convention season with a recap of our time visiting as press at Calgary Expo 2019, including a live interview on the floor with Andrew Phung and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee from CBC’s Kim’s Convenience TV show (starts at 7 minutes in, audio quality improves around 7min 40 seconds in).

Overlapping partly with recording an episode for A Podcast of Ice and Fire, we do a recap of our time at Anime North 2018, held in Toronto, Canada. We cover our experiences at the convention, including taking part as panelists, cosplaying, organizing and running photoshoots, and seeing the exhibitor hall and artist alley. We are not sure if we will be attending next year, so we take the time to evaluate the convention as a whole, both the positives and negatives, based on our last few years of attending the largest Anime convention in Canada.

We debate whether it lives up to the high standard of the TV series and try to predict where they will go from here.
