Episode 81: Anime North 2019

We recap our time at Anime North 2019, held in Toronto, Canada. We cover our experiences at the convention, including taking part as panelists and media, cospalying, organizing and running photoshoots, and seeing the exhibitor hall and artist alley. We take a no holds barred approach to evaluating the positives and negatives of Canada’s largest anime convention.

Episode 74: Anime North 2017

Recorded in late August, we do a quick recap of our time at Anime North 2017, held in Toronto, Canada. We cover our experiences at the convention, including taking part as panelists (together for Game of Thrones, along with a long list of separate panels).

At the end of the recap, we have a copy of the audio recording from a panel I took part in a spoiler filled presentation about Kimi no na wa (Your Name) at another  convention (which included a powerpoint presentation)

Episode 65: Anime North 2016

Recorded in late June, we cover Anime North 2016, held in Toronto, Canada. We cover our experiences at the convention, taking part as panelists (together for Game of Thrones and Black Lagoon, along with a long list of separate panels), staying once again at the International Plaza Hotel, and doing a group cosplay together for the first time.

Notes:  The convention itself marked the four year anniversary of the founding of the Bastards of Kingsgrave podcast! Like last year, we will be part of a fan panel for A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones at San Diego Comic Con 2016.

Episode 64: One Punch Man

Bastards of Kingsgrave one punches its way to your anime heart with a review of One Punch Man. Ashley returns to join the regular anime crew as we discuss the anime in the main show, then have a full spoiler discussion of the manga and webcomic in the aftershow. We also discuss our potential panels at the upcoming Anime North 2016.

Episode 56: Anime North 2015

Ashley returns once again for our review of Anime North 2015, held in Toronto, Canada. We cover our experiences at the convention, taking part as panelists (including for Game of Thrones, Madoka Magica, the Legend of Korra) and staying at the International Plaza Hotel. We cover the good and bad of the convention, while already planning our attendance and panels for next year.

Notes: We recorded a few audio clips (lower quality audio) at the convention itself each night, which are added to the end of this podcast after the end music . The convention itself marked the three year anniversary of the founding of the Bastards of Kingsgrave podcast!

Episode 32: Anime North 2014

Ashley returns to the Bastards of Kingsgrave as we recap our experiences at Anime North 2014 in Toronto, Canada. The audio quality varies in this episode as we recorded some of the clips each day at the convention. Recurring guest host Carly from the Attack on Titan episodes joins us for one of the clips as well. Episode 28: The Devil Is a Part-Timer

Bastards of Kingsgrave continues its 2014 anime reviewing run, as we cover The Devil is a Part-Timer. Recorded back to back with Episode 27, we provide another spoiler filled review of this comedy anime. The aftershow contains the first Snakes and Scorpions game of the new year, as we continue to hash out the proper rules of House Sandwoody’s most deadly game.

Episode 27: Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Bastards of Kingsgrave returns for the new year to cover Madoka Magica, a true deconstruction of the magical girl anime genre. We briefly discuss two articles related to the anime series (article 1 & 2), as well as the many faces of Kyubey.

Episode 25: Steins;Gate

Amin and Ashley review the anime Steins;Gate (and yes that semicolon is supposed to be there). It is a spoiler filled review that was recorded like so many BOK episodes: right after an APOIAF episode recording.   As all meosters know, no BOK episode on a new topic is complete without the Snakes and Scorpions aftershow.

Episode 24: Attack on Titan (Manga)

Amin and Ashley are joined once again by Carly to cover Attack on Titan, the manga (up to early November 2013). We discuss a variety of personal theories and theories from the general fandom, as well as our thoughts on the manga in general. It is an episode filled with Ice and Fire references (perhaps the most ever, the most cringing certainly), creaking doors, and an updated version of our Snakes and Scorpions game for the manga.

Episode 22: Watamote and Social Anxiety Discussion

Amin and Ashley review the dark comedy anime (and manga) Watamote. We have a detailed discussion about the show’s portrayal of social anxiety.

Episode 21: Attack on Titan (Anime)

Amin and Ashley are joined by Carly to cover Attack on Titan, the anime. We have an extensive aftershow filled with shipping, creaking doors, and a failed attempt to define the scorpions in the snakes and scorpions game. At the end of the very end of the aftershow (~1hour, 24 minutes in), we cover some material that may have manga spoilers (borderline, but there) so heed the spoiler warning there and avoid it if you wish.

Notes: Ashley had some sort of microphone issue this episode, resulting in echo talk. Not much that can be done about that.

The full podcast crew from APOIAF appears for the first time in a BOK episode, as we review Firefly (spoiler full as usual), a listener and podcast host favourite! Mimi’s true Firefly fangirl status is revealed, Amin comes up with a new Firefly theory, and Ashley and Kyle are generally awesome.
