Scoring high on the arena and BOK arena tests, the MVP of the episode.
Bastards of Kingsgrave starts off the new year with a return to the growing gaming phenomenon that is Hearthstone, created by Blizzard. We review and rate the new expansion Goblins vs Gnomes. We also go explore arena strategy, covering terminology like Mana Curve, the Vanilla Test. and Quadrant Theory in the Hearthstone Arena context. We do a full Arena draft (Paladin) using these principles. To appease the requests from the last episode, we do a “BOK Arena” draft in the aftershow, applying the famous snakes and scorpions game to Hearthstone.
Notes: Later this week, there will be a Youtube link here to a playthrough of the drafted Arena deck, as well as our round robin play with the themed decks. We discover the true power of Violet Teacher.

The first gaming related Bastards of Kingsgrave episode, this episode focuses on the classic RTS Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings. I am joined by guest host Dave, a good friend and fellow gamer. In regards to the current forms of AOK, we rave about the great fan expansion Forgotten Empires and rant about the release of AOK HD. Here is the promised page with old AOK screenshots and recorded games. Note: In the months since the release of this podcast episode, AOK HD has much improved (though it still has problems) and is playable now. In fact, we do play it, and may do an updated podcast on it in the future.

The Bastards of Kingsgrave are the illegitimate, off-topic podcast of A Podcast of Ice and Fire. We cover anime, manga, and Western animation, as well as a variety of pop culture topics. We've been dubbed the "intersection between A Song of Ice and Fire and everything else." We are also doing the longest running reread of George RR Martin's earlier works.
BOK is on iTunes! Subscribe there, or directly to our RSS feed below. We also have a store up with affiliate links.
Warning: Many episodes are PG-25 and contain references and spoilers for George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, the source material for HBO's Game of Thrones.
To discuss BOK episodes in detail and with others, check out our forums. If you are shopping online, check out our podcast's webstore. We are currently the only podcast doing a reread through George RR Martin's earlier science fiction, horror, and other works.
